NEW DELHI – The passage of the historic Indian agricultural bill will bring about a paradigm shift in the farming sector as now finally the man toiling in the field throughout the year will benefit directly. The master stroke of PM Narendra Modi led government has left the opposition in a state of shock as once again in this period of COVID 19 pandemic they take to the streets by misleading the poor farmers. The pain of the pinch can be seen in their conduct with some even forgetting how to behave in the temple of democracy, the parliament as well as in the state assemblies. Unfortunately, the political parties which had always claimed to be the so called “messiah” of the farmers are screaming their lungs out , “Is it because a big hole has been made in their pocket,” or “is it because their modus operandi of keeping the farmers poor” all his life have been routed.
PM Modi Reiterates Minimum Support Price to stay
Amidst the protest by parties having vested interests, the Indian PM took to television as well as to various social media platforms wherein he emphasised that the government was not doing away with the Minimum Support Price. He further added that the primary objective of the government is to double the income of the farmers and protect their interests from the middleman.
With the passing of the bill, the total MSP payment to the Indian farmers is as follows:
- Wheat has increased by 1.77 times
- Paddy has increased by 2.4 times
- Pulses has increased by 75 times
Highlighting the advantages of the New Agricultural Bill, Indian PM Modi said,
How will the Indian Farmer Benefit?
One of the biggest advantages of the new agricultural bill is that a mechanism has been created wherein the farmers and traders will have freedom of choice of sale and purchase of agri-produce. This will result in the promotion of barrier-free inter-state and intra-state trade and commerce outside the physical premises of markets which have been notified under State Agricultural Produce Marketing legislations.
What Ails the Farming Sector – Middlemen the real Villain
The hue and cry is being made by the middlemen who used to exploit the hardworking farmer and on many occasions the latter had to take the extreme step of committing suicide as he had no option left. With the new law coming into force in the coming days, the farmer will not be compelled to sell his produce to the middleman at the mandis (which were owned by the vested groups). The middlemen procured the produce from the farmers at a measly price, thereby leaving him at the mercy of crooks like money lenders who had little sympathy for the man who was striving hard to make both ends meet.
New Agricultural Bill puts curb on the malpractice of few political families – they can keep crying
It is essential that when the Indian PM Modi speaks, the Indians read between the lines to what he says and especially the corrupt as he gives them a warning beforehand. Time and again Modi had said that he would take all possible steps to ensure that the farmer gets his or her due. With the new law coming into force in the coming days, the hue and cry from the so called corrupt political stalwarts of India’s largest agricultural states is eminent as their deceitful actions have been routed to the core. According to the reports in the media, the Sukhbir Singh Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal, his Sukhbir Agro had an annual income of at least Rs 5,000 crore. The reports claim that his company used to get 2.5% commission. None of the farmers were permitted to sell a tonne of wheat to Food Corporation of India without the tag of Sukhbir Agro. Also another eyeopener is that all the warehouses belonged to him.
Another political stalwart, who is ailing from cancer, his daughter shows agricultural income of Rs 10,000 crore and the family has stronghold over the grape, onion and chilli state.
The masterstroke has left the two politically strong families , who claimed to be the wellwishers of the farmers at the mercy of an honest Indian Prime Minister who is clearly on a drive for “Swachh Bharat” abhiyan. This bill is truly make the Indian agriculture sector “Atma Nirbhar”
Key Words- India’s Agricultural Bill, Indian PM Narendra Modi, Agricultural Bill, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
